MSD Girls Soccer Team Advances To State Competition
CORAL SPRINGS, FL – The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School girls soccer team won yet another decisive game this week, winning in a regional championship and advancing to a state competition.
The girls advanced on Tuesday with a tightly contested win over Vero Beach High School in a game that ended with penalty kicks to determine the winner.
The defensive battle ended in a 0-0 draw after regulation and stoppage time.
Then goalkeeper Carly Brodsky stopped two Vero Beach penalty kicks, which propelled the Eagles into the state semifinals.
“I was very proud of the team effort. Everyone worked really hard, and we are excited to be advancing. Vero Beach was an excellent team, and it could have gone either way, especially in penalty kicks,” MSD Coach Laura Rountree said.
MSD won the game by outscoring Vero Beach 4-2 on penalty kicks.
Penalty kickers were Skylar Lund, Emily Burke, Samantha Novik, and Chloe Rogers.
MSD next plays Friday night at Cypress Bay at 6 p.m.
