Major road construction project for Royal Palm Boulevard in Coral Springs
Coral Springs, Florida – The $10.4 million project would include widening Royal Palm Boulevard from Riverside Drive to Coral Springs Drive in order to add new 5-foot to 7-foot bike lanes, according to a city document.
Construction in that stretch would also include: narrowing driving lanes from 12-feet to 11-feet, adding shelters, benches, bike racks, and trash receptacles, and building new curbs and gutter along that stretch.
According to the document, city commissioners are expected Wednesday to vote on the proposed project that would require Coral Springs to maintain the corridor for $150,000 in the fiscal year 2025 and provide $1 million in the fiscal year 2027 to be eventually reimbursed by Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization.
If approved the project, won’t start until at least 2027.
Coral Springs is working with other state and county departments to add bike lanes and make other road improvements across the city.
Among the current projects:
– Riverside Drive (costs not available): the road between West Atlantic Boulevard and Royal Palm Boulevard will get continuous concrete sidewalks on both sides of the road, resurfacing, installation of bike lanes, new pavement markings, and drainage improvements.
– Wiles Road (costs not available): From University Drive to Riverside Drive, the road will go from four to six lanes, and 4-foot bike lanes, sidewalks, landscaping, irrigation, and extra street lighting will be added.
– Coral Ridge Drive (estimated $7.5 million): The 4.8-mile project from Southgate Boulevard to Wyndham Circle will include widening the roadway for 6-foot bicycle lanes, constructing sidewalks at existing gaps, and reconstructing sidewalk ramps.
