After falling off a charter boat on the Miami River, a passenger was hospitalized
Miami, Florida – According to authorities, a person fell off a charter boat and into the Miami River. First responders attempted to save their life.
On Sunday afternoon, City of Miami Fire Rescue personnel were seen on cell phone video extracting the victim from the water.
“The area where this all took place is right as you’re approaching the Brickell Bridge,” said Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll. “Obviously, since it’s St. Patrick’s Day, they had a lot of boating traffic.”
The incident, according to officials, occurred at 3:30 p.m. When a group of individuals on the charter boat witnessed one of their guests go overboard, they dialed 911.
“She said that she saw [the passenger] fall over, and as they attempted to turn the boat around, they saw another boat that may have struck [the passenger],” said Carroll.
Witnesses pointed out the spot where the passenger, who is in their mid-20s, fell when paramedics arrived, according to officials.
Rescue divers located the individual immediately and pulled them out despite the deep water.
Additional mobile footage demonstrates first responders beginning CPR right away.
In critically ill condition, the victim was taken by paramedics to Ryder Trauma Center.
It’s unclear as of late Sunday night whether anyone will be charged.
The event is being looked into by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
