Westbound Sunny Isles Beach bridge shut down for more than an hour

Sunny Isles Beach, Florida – According to police department spokesperson Sgt. Brian Schnell, westbound traffic on the Sunny Isles Beach bridge headed toward North Miami Beach shut down for more than an hour Saturday afternoon after the bridge became inoperable.

The westbound drawbridge closed but would not stay in place, rendering it unsafe, Schnell said.

Traffic on the bridge, which carries Northeast 163rd Street (Sunny Isles Boulevard), was being rerouted and diverted.

According to Schnell, the bridge reopened just before 2:40 p.m.
