Parkland Fire Department of Coral Springs is hosting a free water safety event

Coral Springs, Florida – Attend a unique public education session sponsored by the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department to learn about water safety. The purpose of the event is to equip locals with fundamental safety knowledge in advance of the summer swimming season.

“With the frequency of accidental drownings in Broward County, it’s critical to host free community-wide events that emphasize the importance of water safety,” said Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department Chief Michael McNally.

On Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Mullins Pool will host the Water Safety Day. Participants of all ages will be able to take part in a range of educational and entertaining activities with free entry to the event.

In addition to interactive demonstrations by certified lifeguards, visitors can practice CPR and First Aid methods during casual sessions. Local reps will also hand out Water Smart Broward Swim coupons, which can be used for free or inexpensive swim lessons at nearby pools.

Additionally, residents can get information regarding safety measures for other bodies of water including domestic pools.

The event will include water-based games, music, open swimming sessions, and prize possibilities to add a splash of fun.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the primary cause of unintentional mortality in children aged 1 to 4 years old is drowning. Nearly 300 kids younger than five drown in swimming pools every year.

McNally added, “As we head into the summer season, we hope the community will take the skills learned at this event to be safer in and around the water. Our goal is always to prevent a potential tragedy.”

The address of Mullins Pool is 10180 NW 29th Street.
