Man Allegedly Snatched Phone From Coral Springs Victim So He Could Visit His Son

Coral Springs, Florida – The 22-year-old man who allegedly ran up to another man and snatched a cell phone out of his hand in Coral Springs gave police a reason for doing this: he needed money to visit his son, a police report said.

Coral Springs officer arrested Jacari Brown of Lauderhill after locating him through the stolen phone’s tracking system.

Wearing all black, Brown ran off from NW 40 Street where the alleged robbery took place on Nov. 26, the report said.

A short time later, using the tracking system, police spotted Brown in a parking lot where he allegedly tried to break into cars.

Brown took off, with officers chasing him. Police caught him as he tried to jump a fence in the area of NW 42 Court.

According to the report, Brown admitted to police that he snatched the phone from the victim because he was upset that the victim ignored him.

He also admitted to committing car burglaries and being in possession of a gun, the report said.

In addition, Brown told investigators that he planned to sell the phone on the street and use the money to visit his son on Thanksgiving.

Among the charges Brown faces are robbery, obstructing police, and carrying a concealed weapon.

He remained Thursday at Broward County Jail on nine charges with more than $10,000 in bonds.
